A striking antique reticule worked in rich red and white glass beads.

The envelope-form bag is covered with densely arranged floral and geometric motifs, with a curved fringed panel crossing the front and a line of faceted decorative elements defining its edge. The original beaded strap survives alongside its textile backing.

Both decorative and remarkably graphic, the piece demonstrates the extraordinary amount of handwork contained within these diminutive early bags.
